Join your friends and family at these local South Bend parks for a picnic and a perfect afternoon.

Nothing beats spending an afternoon out in the sunshine and fresh air with your friends and family, and a picnic is a great way to do just that. South Bend has plenty of parks that are perfect for having picnics. Check out one of these suggestions from our real estate agents.

  • Potawatomi Park - 500 S. Greenlawn Avenue
Potawatomi Park is one of those community parks that has pretty much anything you could want during a family picnic and outing in the park. The park offers plenty of shade, which makes it perfect for picnicking, and there are plenty of attractions to keep everyone busy before and after they eat. The park boasts a sprawling playground, plus a pool and splash pad for those hot summer days. In addition, Potawatomi Zoo and Potawatomi Conservatory are both located within the park. For major events, the park features both large and small pavilions to rent, or you can even rent the Conservatory.

  • River Manor Park - 3811 Glenview Drive
River Manor Park may not offer the sprawling splendor or the variety of activities of Potawatomi Park, but this smaller, quieter park still has plenty to do. Have a picnic on the grass and afterward, let the kids play on the playground or take a walk along the riverside trail. There are also athletic courts, with both basketball and tennis courts, where the whole family can practice.

  • Rum Village Park - 2626 S Gertrude Street
This sprawling park offers 160 acres of woodland that are perfect for not just picnics but plenty of other summer activities. Let the kids loose on the playground, hike or mountain bike along the trails, play disc golf, or take a moment to appreciate the nature center at Rum Village Park. When you get hungry, just find a place to spread your picnic blanket and enjoy a meal. Don't forget to bring the doggo, too, as the park features a new dog park addition! Planning a big event? Rum Village Park also offers pavilion rentals, both in the main park and in the dog park.

  • Pinhook Park - 2801 Riverside Drive
Another of South Bend's beautiful parks, Pinhook Park is located close to many South Bend homes for sale. This park has been recently updated, with a brand new playground, entry points for kayaking and fishing, and an updated community center. There are plenty of hiking trails and peaceful scenery as a backdrop to your picnic. You can even sponsor a tree on the Native Tree Trail and take the family there for a hike before finding a spot for your picnic. For large events, the community center is available for rent, with a newly updated kitchen.

  • Woodlawn Park - 2166 Riverside Drive
As the name suggests, Woodlawn Park offers an abundance of beautiful lawn where you can set up your family picnic. There's also a playground for keeping the kids occupied, hiking and mountain biking trails for the whole family, and a peaceful view of the river winding past. Do note that you'll need a permit for any large, organized picnics.

Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast or just want to enjoy a happy summer picnic with your family, South Bend has plenty to offer. Our community takes full advantage of its proximity to the river with its many picturesque parks.
